MellorSubject Information: Science
The Snap Science scheme is used throughout the school and reflects the requirements of the NC programme of Study. The curriculum is designed to give all pupils (including disadvantage pupils and pupils with SEND) an opportunity to succeed in Science. The Science curriculum has been adapted to ensure that pupils have enrichment activities that deepen their learning throughout the year. Key concepts are taught throughout the school to ensure that children acquire the necessary skills by the end of the academic year. Each lesson has importance placed upon the pupils using their oracy skills to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively and for pupils to be able to correctly use subject specific vocabulary. The Science curriculum at Mellor provides pupils with the knowledge to make healthy lifestyle choices, understand current worldly issues, recognise the importance of hygiene, self-care and healthy eating. During British Science Week and throughout the academic year, experts from the Science field are invited to support the teachers and provide opportunities for the pupils to learn about a range of scientific content and aspire pupils to specific careers associated with Science.
