Subject Information: Music

We promote and support the music curriculum for all children through classroom experiences. We work to establish a safe, structured environment cementing mutual respect, positive attitudes, values and behaviour thus fostering an enjoyable relationship with music. Experiences and resources are used to support and embed musical knowledge, skills and understanding in the four areas of learning: listen and appraise, create and compose, singing and performing. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own work securing a firm foundation in music to lead them on to secondary school and beyond. They explore the use of music ICT where relevant. The music curriculum is designed to continually reflect progression throughout all years with exploration of greater depth opportunities and differentiated learning where relevant. It is recognised that music can promote children’s confidence and aligns with the routes to resilience and oracy strategies. Music can also be a learning tool across the curriculum.

In computing, Year 2 have been exploring ‘pulse’ and ‘rhythm’ using Chrome Music lab.

4MH enjoyed using musical instruments during our science lesson this morning to investigate how sound is made. We discussed whether an object needs to move in order for sound to be made and children wrote their ideas on sticky notes.

Today, in Science, 4CK explored musical instruments to investigate how sounds are made. We enjoyed figuring out how they can be played and finding out what sounds they make and how they make sounds!
